Why should I be drinking Spirulina?

Updated: Jan 21, 2021

Let us talk about Spirulina for our new trendy topic on Tuesday, #TryItTuesday. Spirulina is a real hot girl. I mean it is a mega super nutrient that elevates you holistically. Your health and wellness is instantly lifted and you can actually feel and see the results both immediately and long term. Phew!

So why is it soooo green. That is the first question of that many of you have and I get it. Let us make wealth and health synonymous with GREEN. There is chlorophyll in spirulina. That is what gives it this rich green color. Spirulina is a blue green algae. Chlorophyll cleanses the blood, kidneys and your liver, and helps eliminate these waste products that tend to sit in these organs and create chaos. When we talk about skin and holistic healing, Spirulina is a great micro nutrient because it helps bind heavy metals and toxins. This is critical because things that are going on internally typically show up on our skin. This is why detoxing and cleansing is important for overall skin care.

Spirulina is also an excellent micro nutrient to take for both health and skincare benefits due to its high antioxidative properties. Antioxidants are excellent anti-aging elements. When we talk about the skin staying youthful we mean full of life. A more youthful stage of skin, this can be achieved even at 80 if one takes special care of their skin ahead of time and consistently.

Spirulina is anti-inflammatory because of the different nutrients. The anti-inflammatory effects inside of the body will also show up on the outside. Which brings me to a point I want to make about the outside. This nutrient gem can also be applied to the skin! Yes, I know I led with some reasons on why you should be drinking Spirulina but it is also the perfect hydration health kick for your skin to take in.

The same effects of eliminating toxins internally can be had when applied externally. This can increase skin metabolism which encourages cell turnover and repairs damage to the skin due to aging and UV lights.

Spirulina like Collagen is a supplement you can add to many different foods to increase the health benefits. Did you know just by adding a serving of spirulina and collagen to a smoothie or your water every other day you can boost the healthy glow of the skin quite literally. Double the glow if you create a mask mixing the two with a cream base. Again, the properties in Spirulina help reduce acne, swelling and makes the skin a non-optimal site for bacteria overgrowth.

I am talking to you all about Spirulina today because I am personally dealing with a terrible hormonal outbreak due to stress and dehydration. Unfortunately one particular area of my life is a little stressful for no apparent reason other than sheer jealousy and unaccountability. And these are not traits from me but some other people I have to deal with in some sort of capacity. In the efforts of unblocking my throat chakra, I am very much in the energy for calling out things for what they are. Anyway...

As a holistic practitioner and herbalist, I wanted to combine my knowledge from the Esthetics field with earth and spirit knowledge. So I looked right into my freezer and remember my little green friend. I create a drink to encourage me to be a little more mindful of my choice in hydration. I have been drinking a lot of coffee and no water. Terrible. I no longer wanted to sit and feel stressed so I am literally switching it up AGAIN. I will be limiting my coffee intake over the next few days and increasing my herbal intake. Spirulina just happened to hit the top of the list!

Be on the look out for a mask I am curating for you to make at home very soon.

Oh and one more note... people with renal failure, diabetes, auto-immune diseases, pregnant women should be mindful of sources and usage with Spirulina. Please consult with your doctor for your specific health needs and potentially including this supplement into your wellness regime. Happy Healing loves :)
