As a wellness brand and business, Blyssom uses both lab and homemade formulations. It is commonly thought that using a lab or distribution models are not "authentic" and "easier" than making products at home. Stirring natural oils and ingredients in your kitchen does not mean you love your audience more. Let us just be honest. In fact I can say this loudly because I do BOTH. Efficiency is best. Also as a Black Woman Owned and Operated Business lets de-stigmatize having access to labs and gaining insight and literacy around entrepreneurship as inauthentic. It is simply a shady jealous lie. Lets build and keep it all the way real. It is also implied that homemade products are not efficient and safe. This is not entirely true however I want to shed light on why we go the Research and Distribution route with labs.
I am a skin care professional and I say this respectfully and as humbly as possible while also letting be known I have studied formally and experientially with wellness and skincare. Being Licensed and Insured, there are a few things that precede my model of business. The primary one is safety and sanitation. As an alumnae of the number one Esthetics school in New York, being aware of quality ingredients and sanitary practices is the most pertinent item for my business and reputation. I don't play about my name.
Choosing a lab in addition to homemade formulations works in my favor, as a business and in your favor for safety protocols, sterile packaging and consistency. As a business that offers curated services, offering luxury skincare elevates your experience with us and in wellness overall. These items are simply not guaranteed with homemade products. When we speak of infectious disease control, Blyssom can confidently say we de-risk ourselves with our luxury branded skincare items. Our skin care products are paraben-free, sulfate-free, silicone-free, talc-free, cruelty-free and vegan. Our products are made with natural and organic ingredients.
Our formulations are hygienic, formulated and stored in temperature controlled settings in addition to having secure packaging. Through trial and error, I have learned that using a lab is the way to secure safety, being certified in product ingredient knowledge as a skincare specialist (certifications available upon request) gains your trust and keeping it real with my utilization of both models further situates Blyssom by Shapel as an authentic elevated brand. This is why I strongly believe someone could have the recipe and the blueprint but the sauce will always taste different. We are a SOURCED experience.
