3 Makeup Tips for a Natural Look

During the summer, it's still possible to create a soft makeup look. It's essential to consider your skin's health and choose makeup that suits the season and the occasion. As an esthetician and black feminist, I advocate for Black women to prioritize their happiness and health when making beauty choices.

I believe it's crucial to understand how to maintain healthy skin while applying makeup because our skin is a reflection of our overall health and well-being. Using the appropriate products and techniques can help us enhance our beauty without compromising the health of our skin. As an esthetician, I emphasize the importance of skincare and mindful makeup application to ensure that our skin remains healthy and radiant. This knowledge empowers individuals to make informed decisions about the products they use and promotes a positive relationship between makeup and skincare.

1. When it comes to makeup, less is often more: The goal of makeup is to enhance your natural features, not to overpower them. Here are some tips to keep in mind:

i) Eyeliner: Avoid thick, dark eyeliner for a more natural look. Heavy eyeliner may be suitable for special occasions, but for everyday wear, opt for a more subtle approach.

ii) Mascara: Many mascaras can clump, causing your lashes to stick together and leaving gaps. To avoid this, apply mascara lightly to enhance your lashes naturally.

iii) Foundation: Choose a foundation that matches your skin tone. Start with a small amount and build up as needed. The goal of foundation is to create a smooth, even complexion. Use the right brush for your type of foundation to ensure a seamless application.

iv) Powder: Apply powder lightly to avoid a heavy, unnatural look. Blending is important to prevent visible lines and ensure a natural finish.

2. Lips: For a natural look, opt for neutral lip colors. A clear gloss can add a touch of shine while maintaining a natural appearance. Tinted chapstick is also a great option for a subtle hint of color.

3. Occasion-appropriate makeup: Tailor your makeup to the occasion. Lighter makeup is suitable for daytime and casual events, while more defined makeup can be worn for evening events or special occasions. Keep in mind that makeup for outdoor activities should be lighter and more natural than makeup for nighttime events.
